Oil Pastels

Oil Pastels

Patterned Cars

Students had to choose a mode of transportation.  Next the object was drawn large on white paper and outlined in black sharpie.  We used oil pastels to color in the car.  We did a light color layer followed by a dark color on top of the light.  Black oil pastels were colored on top of the existing layers of pastels.  Careful not to use to much black. We added black in various areas to add variety to the work.

Mosaics

Animal Mosaics
After viewing many examples of mosaics students created their own mosaics.  A mosaic is a picture or design made of tiny pieces of glass, paper, or tile and adhered to a surface.Students used marker to simulate the appearance of tile.  A template of an animal was provided.
Students then carefully cut out the shape and glued it to colored or textured paper.

This is a good quick project to end the week with.

Warm and Cool Colors

Water Color Grids

We measured 1 in. boxes on 12 X 18 paper.
Next an image was drawn in over the boxes.  Students then chose the foreground or background to add warm or cool colors.
We painted with watercolor. Once work is dry students may outline some areas with black sharpie to enhance the image.

Tissue Paper Animal Portraits

Expressive Animals

Objectives
1.Gain an understanding and appreciation of how animals are often used as subjects in art 2. Draw animals from direct observation and photographs
3. Create drawings that explore animals as symbol
4. Students will be able to define Expressionism and apply the concept in a work of art.

Expressionism- An attitude conveyed by the set of a person's facial features. Also, a quality of inner experience, the emotions of the artist (expressive qualities) communicated through emphasis and distortion, which can be found in works of art of any period.
Students will choose an animal based on what it represents or symbolizes. EX: Dog- Loyalty
Students used a glue wash and torn colored tissue paper to create their backgrounds.
After the background is dry, students drew an animal using black ink and pencil.  Students are encouraged to use expressive line to add interest.
Fine tip pens and sharpies were used to create texture
