Tissue Paper Animal Portraits

Expressive Animals 

Objectives
1.Gain an understanding and appreciation of how animals are often used as subjects in art 2. Draw animals from direct observation and photographs
3. Create drawings that explore animals as symbol
4. Students will be able to define Expressionism and apply the concept in a work of art. 


Expressionism- An attitude conveyed by the set of a person's facial features. Also, a quality of inner experience, the emotions of the artist (expressive qualities) communicated through emphasis and distortion, which can be found in works of art of any period.
Students will choose an animal based on what it represents or symbolizes. EX: Dog- Loyalty
Students used a glue wash and torn colored tissue paper to create their backgrounds.
After the background is dry, students drew an animal using black ink and pencil.  Students are encouraged to use expressive line to add interest.
Fine tip pens and sharpies were used to create texture
